Ice Palace
Ice Palace is one of the most famous sports and entertainment complexes in Saint Petersburg. It usually welcomes various kinds of sports competitions: hockey, figure skating, short track, boxing, all kinds of wrestling, basketball, volleyball, ballroom dancing, and gymnastics. Moreover it houses the world-class concerts of opera singers, symphony orchestras, pop-stars. Thanks to a great technical capacity of Ice Palace, it can host numerous exhibitions and trade fairs, conferences, or celebrations of the organizations’ anniversaries.
The construction of Ice Palace in Saint Petersburg began in 1998 and was finished in 2000. It was specially designed for the World Ice Hockey Championship, held in Saint Petersburg in 2000. Ice Palace has big hall (11.762 seats and 74 VIP-boxes), which can be transformed into a smaller hall with the help of acoustic curtains of black color. There is also a small hall, which has the opportunity to be transformed into chamber hall, and skating-ring, equipped with comfortable bathrooms, solarium and massage parlor.
From the moment of its opening, which took place in April 2000, Ice Palace housed more than 500 concerts, took part in the organization of 370 sports and 98 corporate events. Having only 6 years of experience Ice Palace has managed to welcome Handball World Championship, Figure Skating Europe Championship, Europe Grand Prix Figure Skating Finals, Europe Sports Ballroom Dancing Championship and other competitions. Ice Palace regularly gives the stage to such famous world stars, as Whitney Houston, Sher, Tom Jones, Bryan Adams, Sarah Brightman, Eros Ramazotti, Dave Gahan and others. It organizes the concerts of domestic artists, like Alla Pugacheva, Phillip Kirkorov, “Lube”, “Mashina Vremeni”, and others. In 2006 the first ceremony of “MTV Russia Music Awards” was held in Ice Palace. Annually it welcomes “Nevskiy Book Forum”, “Property Fair”, and many other exhibitions.
