State St Petersburg Drama Theater
The State St Petersburg Drama Theatre, or Priut Komedianta, is quite young. It was founded in 1987. At the very beginning, the Priut Komedianta was "the theatre of one actor". Most performances were the so called "mono-performances" dedicated to life and works of famous Russian poets. Later the theatre became more popular and started to stage plays with a participation of more than one actor.
Perhaps, the main difference of this theatre is that it doesn't have a permanent company of actors. The theatre invites actors from different theatres of Saint Petersburg. This economic model has certain advantages. For instance, you can see a lot of famous Russian actors on one scene, and every new play will star new actors for sure. That's why the repertoire of this theatre is often updated.
When the State St Petersburg Drama Theatre was established it was located at Malaya Morskaya Street. In 1998 the theatre moved in a better building of a former cinema hall at Sadovaya Street. Started as a theatre-studio, today, the Priut Komedianta is a state theatre working with many famous actors, directors, and designers.
